As an official affiliate port for OpSail 2012 Virginia™, Cape Charles will be headquarters for a spectacular regional celebration June 8-12 commemorating the two hundredth anniversary of the War of 1812 and the writing of the Star Spangled Banner. You are cordially invited to join in the festival to showcase and sell your arts, crafts and other wares to an expected audience of several thousand attendees attracted by the pageantry and excitement of our festival.
Features include three magnificent tall ships, Lynx, Sultana and AppledoreV together with two 170-foot U.S. Navy patrol craft, the USS Shamal (PC-13) and the USS Zephyr (PC-8) and a bevy of other craft of every conceivable kind and shape: sloops, private yachts, kayaks, dinghies and even paddleboards. There will be free deck tours, day sails, crews of costumed re-enactors, succulent seafood and other good things to eat, professional musicians, historical re-enactments, plays, a film festival and family fun: kids may make and sail a model boat, go on pony rides, or try their hand at hauling the yard-arm.
The Tall Ships At Cape Charles festival is managed and organized under the auspices of Eastern Shore Virginia Festivals (ESVAF, Inc.), a non-profit organization promoting the Eastern Shore as a destination for visitors. What better way to benefit the local economy!
